guess what i did this weekend??

you knew it was coming.

(if you know me)

yes folks. i baked some cookies.

yes. ghirardelli. i know whats up.

my mother for some strange reason beyond my comprehension does not like chocolate all that much. so she asked for some without any.

who even makes chocolate chip cookies without the chocolate chips?!?!?

sigh.

yum.

and i baked them in the apron i sewed!

by the way: i will be making and selling these aprons in the near(ish) future. aka october. i will be posting more info on that in the months to come.

chocolate chip cookies

1 1/4 c. flour

1/4 t. baking soda

1/4 t. salt

1/2 c. packed brown sugar

1/2 c. white granulated sugar

1 stick butter

1 egg

1 t. vanilla

1 c. semisweet choc. chips. (i used more. of course.)

-mix flour, soda, salt in seperate bowl, set aside.

-blend sugars and butter on medium speed.

-add egg, vanilla, and mix until blended.

-add flour mix, adding slowly until blended.

-stir in chocolate chips by hand.

bake on parchment paper lined baking sheet for 9-11 mins at 350 degrees.

tessa and david...engaged!!!

d&t.

[darren & tegyn? ha! although true, this d&t are for]

david & tessa!

these two are adorable together. and both have the best personalities. congrats, guys!

in three years

i have accumulated this much make up from bare escentuals. (major bonus of being an employee) however, i dont think that even 75 percent of this has ever been used. because about 90 percent of it was free.
and do i really wear all of this??
no. not even close.
you see, only on days when i have to work at bare escentuals, or on days when i need to look "nice" (like at church) do i actually wear it. most days are just mascara, and then i call it a day.
soo..what do i do with all of this??
answer: when my best friend, crystal comes over, (crystal, are you reading this!?) she gets to raid it. and she loves me for it.

pretty

etsy love

ive been addicted to etsy a lot more than usual lately. could possibly be due to all the extra free time roaming around my schedule these days. im going to go with that excuse until i cant use it anymore. :) on that note, these are my favorites this week:
1. brass earrings from miabeads. im really excited that birds are the new "trend" right now. i love them. and this gives me a somewhat reasonable excuse to flaunt my love for them.
2. fleasboutique. ive been looking for a picnic basket for forever! i love picnics. love them. and im so excited for the warm sun to be out this summer so i can go on picnics. (with my quilt.)
3. its a recipe box from giftsandtalents. they do custom orders!
4. i really really really love slash want slash need this. no. not really. but i do like it. (a lot!) this is another one of those "if i had my own home i would definitely buy this" items. im seriously thinking about buying it anyway and just putting it somewhere until i do have my own home. its from trwoodworks. they let you choose your paint color. and then let you decide if you want it "distressed" or not. they do everything. seriously.
5. ive said it before and ill say it again. i love old things. i love things that are so old they would have so many stories to tell if they could talk. what have they seen?? where have they been?? so naturally...i fell in love with this too. its a cake plate from ruralfarmhouse.
6. these caught my eye for photography props. this girl has a whole store dedicated to wedding props. they are adorable! i thought these would be so pretty to have for a shoot. thebackporchshoppe.
7. again with the "old" thing. i cant help it. hindsvik.
8. and lastly. because ive picked up sewing as my millionth hobby, i want this pattern. i may be getting a little over my head here, and will probably be asking my mom for help with some parts, but thats ok. right? im learning. and besides, i cant pass an amy butler pattern. idealist222.

free time!

im so excited about my free time this week. ahem. i mean my "down" time. but really. i cant feel any pain when im so excited to be doing something i love to do. just because i have the time to do it! ive been either sleeping (blame the meds. i hate that part. i cannot even keep my eyes open.) or ive been playing.
this will soon be a skirt. i made one about a month ago when i found this (awesome and so fun) blog. who found a tutorial from this sewing blog. My first skirt didnt have pockets for two reasons. the first reason was that im not one for patience when i get excited about something. and i wanted to finish my skirt asap without any unnecessary pieces. the second reason was that i was just too chicken.

but then i later realized how nice it would have been to have pockets in my skirt. just to put my phone and keys in! no purse!!

so..this skirt will have pockets.

oh..and this? not much. just working on the QUILT im making!!! this is a huge deal for me. and if you know me you know that it is. i never ever thought i would be one to sew. ever. but i love it! its so so fun and i love making something with my hands that is totally useable! (and by totally useable i mean that i really want to take this quilt/blanket out on a picnic as soon as im done with it.) it just looks like summer. and parks. and watermelon. and warm weather. perfect for a picnic!

ive also been playing around a little bit with this guy too. its been a while. but ive been loving it! i love all this time i suddenly have now. if im not sleeping, im doing something that ive been waiting to do forever, but never ever have the time to.

this is turning out to be a better idea now than i ever thought it would be!
minus the ear pain. i could do without the ear pain.

happy day

on tuesday, darren brought me flowers after i got home from surgery so that i would have something pretty to look at. i love them. i love him! (i had to sneak out my camera when my mom wasnt home to take these pictures because she's added everything but "watching tv" and "sleeping" to a list of "things not to do when youre newly tonsil-less")

then, yesterday, i got the BEST surprise!! Elisa, (their mom and an amazing dermatologist, if youre looking for one) and Austin (with his three adorable cousins) came over to visit me!! Ryan was at a birthday party, and couldnt make it. i missed him. They played with my dog and in the backyard. and told me how they hoped chocolate would make me feel better even though i couldnt eat it yet.
that made my day!
i have to say, this surgery hasnt been as bad as i thought it might be. and i couldnt be happier about that!! i feel like i have the worst sore throat of my life, and ive thrown up twice. (dont eat jello) but all in all, its really not that bad! i think ive slept more in the past three days than i have in the past three weeks. And i really really do have the best surgeon. (ryan and austin's dad!) if you need a good ENT, let me know :)
all i can say is...im gonna get my bake on as soon as i can eat again. and im going to make pizza. and im going to eat the chocolate austin brought me.

when life hands you lemons...

make lemonade.
(and then drink it before you have your tonsils removed and you can still eat or drink anything. especially citrus. ouch.)
yes. thats right.
tonsils.
are coming out.
ive been bombarded with horror stories for adult tonsillectomies.
yikes.
However...there has to be a good side to this, right? when its all said and done, i wont have to ever deal with my tonsils wreaking havoc ever again. right??
sigh.
I have a hunch ill need to have something to look forward to when my life is given back to me. when i can function without pain.

here's a snippet:
03. lemonade. (or drinking anything for that matter.)
41. laughing.
01. darren.
27. GOOD HEALTH
48. pizza.
57. being productive.

how much do i take for granted?! not after this tuesday. no siree.

etsy love

1. Make Something Good Poster from pleasebestill. if i had my own kitchen, this would be hanging in it.

2. La Petite Farm Table from poppycottage I want one of these. I need one of these. where would i put it? That can be decided later. Too bad its so expensive. Maybe i could make one?

3. Sienna Vintage German Cameo Ring. from linkeldesigns. love it. love love love it.

4. Orange Dreamsicle Flower Studs from littleloveliesshop

5. Sweet Pea Locket from linkeldesigns. I have always loved lockets. I have no idea what to put in them, but they oddly remind me of the movie The Secret Garden. I'm not sure why.

this weekend

my Disneyland walking feet. And Darren's paparazzi shot.

p.s. can you find me in his picture?

I've been on a smoothie kick a lot recently. I think this summer I'm going to experiment with my juicer....ahem.. my Mom's juicer

The Zuniga Family

I had the chance to take this family's first picture with the entire family there! They were quite the fun bunch with lots of adorable kids. Had so much fun with them!
more to come in the next few days over here.

love as big as the sun

Once there were two women,
who barely knew each other.

One is in your heart forever,
the other you'll call Mother.

Two different lives,
shaped to make your one.
One became your guiding star,
the other became your sun.
The first gave you a life,
the second taught you to live it.

The first gave you a need for love,
the second taught you to give it.

One gave you a nationality,
the other gave you a name.

One gave you a seed of talent,
the other gave you an aim.

One gave you emotion,
the other calmed your fears.

One saw your first sweet smile,
the other dried your tears.

One gave you up,
it was all that she could do.

One prayed for a child,
and God led her straight to you.

And now you ask me through your tears,
the age old question throughout the years..

Heredity or environment?
which are you a product of?

Neither, my darling, neither.
Just two different kinds of love.
Happy Mother's Day.

my life as a nanny

looks like this most of the time.
